The hospitals have introduced the latest in electroencephalogram (EEG) equipment, which measures and records the electrical activity of a patient’s brain. The new technology will provide continuous inpatient EEG monitoring with video, enabling staff to document seizures and behaviors not always captured during routine EEG testing. Ambulatory EEGs are also now possible, as patients can take monitoring equipment home for a specified length of time, enabling medical staff to monitor the patient on a long-term basis and provide a more accurate diagnosis.
“The capabilities of our comprehensive EEG services will be of great advantage to our epilepsy patients as well as to others who can benefit from advanced neurological testing and monitoring,” said Thomas Buchanan, M.D., board-certified epileptologist and member of the medical staff of Jordan Valley Medical Center and Pioneer Valley Hospital. “An EEG is often the best or only way to determine what is happening within various brain functions. Medical technology like advanced EEG can provide a window into our patients through which we can provide life-altering and often life-saving treatment.”
