Oct. 20, 2011

Jordan Valley Medical Center, Pioneer Valley Hospital and Physician Group of Utah today announced the opening of the Oval Sports Medicine clinic with Russ Toronto, M.D., one of the most experienced and knowledgeable sports medicine specialists in Utah. Oval Sports Medicine is located at the Utah Olympic Oval at 5662 South 4800 West.

“We are pleased to be affiliated with Dr. Toronto and Oval Sports Medicine,” said Bryanie Swilley, CEO of Jordan Valley Medical Center and Pioneer Valley Hospital. “Dr. Toronto has built his reputation as a physician who will pursue the best treatment options available for patients, while providing valuable information on how to intervene early when injuries occur and how to prevent future injuries. He will be a great asset to our medical staff.”

On Oct. 25, the community is invited to the grand opening of Oval Sports Medicine. Beginning at 1:30 p.m. and lasting until 6 p.m., the public open house will include a ribbon cutting followed by free height prediction for young athletes along with refreshments and prize giveaways from ESPN 700 radio. At 7 p.m., Dr. Toronto, a participating provider in SportsMed Utah, will host a discussion about cutting-edge performance testing and enhancement programs currently under development at the clinic.

A graduate of the University of Utah College of Medicine, Dr. Toronto has worked with professional, collegiate and recreational athletes in Utah for more than 30 years. He has been a team physician for University of Utah football, Triple A professional baseball and at many high schools. He was the medical director of long track speed skating for the 2011 World Cup and a venue physician for Olympic snowboarding in 2002. Dr. Toronto has also served on the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and as a medical adviser for many club sports including gymnastics, running and soccer. A former collegiate baseball player and avid backcountry skier, his passion is returning athletes to the court, playing field or track.
