West Jordan COP Shop set to operate from Jordan Valley Medical Center ER
May 20, 2009

Jordan Valley Medical Center and the City of West Jordan are partnering to better serve the southwest valley by opening a new police substation located in Jordan Valley Medical Center’s Emergency Room. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place Thursday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the ER waiting area, 3580 W. 9000 South, ER entrance. Media tours are available beginning at 10 a.m. for those who would like a behind-the-scenes look.

“The new setup brings officers closer to the people they serve and will act as a natural gathering place for people to voice concerns and interact with the police,” said West Jordan Mayor Dave Newton. “It will be a great asset not only to West Jordan but to the entire southwest valley.”
Jordan Valley Medical Center is the only hospital on the west side of the valley to include a police substation in its waiting room, and it’s the first one to be located in an IASIS facility. When the Medical Center was making plans for its $50 million expansion, the timing was right to make space for a substation.

“By providing this office space at our hospital, we have provided WJPD an office and means to stay out in our community,” said Jon Butterfield, Jordan Valley Medical Center’s chief operating officer. “We are thrilled that we could offer this space to the city and consider it a win/win for both the hospital and the WJPD."

Jordan Valley Medical Center will also be opening a new emergency medical services break room. The room is designed to give police and fire personnel a place to clean-up, file reports, and recover from the stress of incident management.

“The break room is a welcome addition,” said Sgt. Keith Bronson. “It will give us a place to regroup without having to spend time traveling back to the PD. We enjoy working with all the great people at our hospital and appreciate all they do for our community.”

Jordan Valley Medical Center is hosting its annual EMS barbecue after the ribbon-cutting to honor South Jordan and West Jordan emergency responders.

Jordan Valley Medical Center has been serving the health care needs of the southwest valley for more than 25 years, and currently has 172 licensed beds. The hospital specializes in family-centered maternity care, orthopedics, general surgery, emergency care, cardiology services and many other specialties.
